I thought you would be subjected to another sleeping Newfoundland, but the deer finally came up over the hill.

The deer where a bit wary this morning. I was up on the deck and this young one kept looking up at me.

I think a key to expression is in the ears. A little twist or flick and you can almost "hear" what they are thinking.
